Avada Kedavra is likely one of the three Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy, that’ll instantly kill off your opponents.
Casting Avada Kedavra for the first time in Hogwarts Legacy can be quite shocking, as its chilling green light ends with your opponents literally turning into dust.
It’s dubbed the killing curse, as there’s no spell that’s more deadly than it, and it’s been used in the series to kill off beloved Harry Potter characters like Albus Dumbledore, Cedric Digory, and even Harry himself.
In Hogwarts Legacy, Avada Kedavra is no-doubt the most powerful spell, and as such you won’t be learning it until much later in the game.
Avada Kedavra is the third and final Unforgivable Curse you can learn in Hogwarts Legacy and it can only be acquired by progressing through the main story.
It’s unlocked towards the end of Sebastian Sallow’s side quest line but you’ll need to choose the right dialogue options for this Slytherin fellow to teach it to you.
Without revealing too much, during the In the Shadow of the Relic quest you’ll be prompted to choose between two dialogue options: ‘No one should know that curse’ or ‘Everyone should know that curse’.
Choose the latter and Sebastian will offer to teach you Avada Kedavra, which will give you two further dialogue options: ‘Now is not the time’ or ‘Yes please’.
Choose ‘Yes please’ and he’ll immediately show you how to cast the curse. (Pick ‘Now is not the time’ if you’ve got other burning matters to attend to first.)
During Sebastian’s next quest, In the Shadow of Fate, when talking with Slytherin student Ominis Gaunt you’ll have to make a choice whether to turn Sebastian in or not.
If you choose not to turn Sebastian in, you’ll be able to meet him in the Undercroft where he will offer to teach you any of the three Unforgivable Curses you haven’t learnt yet.
Normally, you’d also become versed in the Crucio and Imperio curses during Sebastian’s quest line but it is possible to miss them at first.
Does using Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy make you evil?
While you can use spells like Avada Kedavra that are considered morally questionable… there’s no morality system in Hogwarts Legacy.
This means that using Unforgivable Curses in-game won’t cause any downsides in terms of the story and its outcome.
It’s not like you can constantly use these strong curses either, as they tend to come with a lengthy cooldown period.
Casting Unforgivable Curses also doesn’t impact any plotlines and you won’t be sent to Azkaban – or worse, get expelled.
However, do expect a few comments, gasps, or the occasional side-eye by bystanders if you start exchanging magical blows in public.
